Independents' Day UK 2020

Hello fellow geeks!

We hope are all doing well and keeping safe. We've noticed a decrease in online sales since many went back to work, like us, on the 15th June. The footfall around town is also not its best - understandably at the moment!

While the COVID-19 pandemic is still around, we feel this will be the norm for a while to come, meaning we are heading for the worst economic recession we've seen in many years. So we thought it was a good time to share Independents' Day which is held on 4th July 2020. But what is it? Find out below.

About The Campaign...

Independents’ Day UK in association with Maybe* is a campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, but with an annual focus on July 4th: ‘Independents’ Day’ itself. Independents account for something in the order of 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country.

Retailers...

Independent retailers offer choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a more personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies. And with retail spending under pressure, never have they needed our support more.

Shoppers...

It’s no secret that shoppers want diversity in their High Streets and independent retailers that give their towns a distinct character and service. So buying those new clothes, meeting your DIY requirements, shopping for a piece of kitchenware, getting a gift and a card for someone special, treating your pet or just having a coffee and something to eat with an independent outlet makes the world of difference.

Their main goal is to boost the local ecomony through high Street independent shops through their 'Pledge A Pound' scheme. Whether it's a newspaper or a pint of milk, Pledge A Pound and spend at a small shop near you this Independents' Day - 4th July 2020.

Please support your indies this Independents' Day (and beyond!), to help make sure your local High Street and favourite small shops will be around for you in years to come.

Much love,

Team Geek x
