The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Hello fellow geeks,

Today we celebrate the life of comedy genius, our role model and absolute idol, Rik Mayall, on the anniversary of his death in 2014.

I grew up with fond memories watching Rik and Ade Edmondson on television with my Dad in programmes such as The Young Ones and Bottom. He also starred as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder (WOOF!), and let's not forget one of my all time favourite films, Drop Dead Fred.

Still to this day Rik and Ade have me crying with laughter with their stupid antics and I will enjoy their comedy for years to come.

Rik was also due to appear in the blockbuster movie, Harry Potter as Peeves the Poltergeist. However his scenes were deleted in production as they "didn't like the look of the ghost". What a mistake! He would have been perfect for the role, because let's face it, he's a rebellious sh*t!

Rik taught me to laugh always, make a joke out of everything and, of course, always question authority - which has got me into trouble at times, but he reminded me to always stand up for myself.

"All men are equal, therefore no one can ever be your genuine superior." - Rik Mayall

Upon hearing about his death after a heart attack, I knew we had lost a true gem in this ever-growing cruel world and there will be no one else like him ever again. But his spirit will live on through his fans.

A tribute from his comedy partner, Ade, was extremely touching. I saw Adrian Edmondson and The Bad Shepherds a few years ago and he dedicated a song to Rik *cue me crying like a baby* - it was lovely.

"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish b*stard." - Ade Edmondson

Thank you for the laughs, Rik

RIP

Keep laughing

Much love,
